2020 Vision

We’ve all heard the aphorism “hindsight is 20/20”, and this year brings a new opportunity to reflect and act from this perspective.  While it is becoming increasingly easy to see the impact of single use plastic waste in our environment, it can be much harder to know how to take action to prevent it in the future. This year, however, we all have the opportunity to start making small changes that can have large cumulative impacts over this new decade.

Last night as I put my 5 year old son to bed I asked him, “what do you want most in this world?”  I thought he was going to tell me a game or toy that he’s had his eye on recently, but his answer surprised me.  He told me “no more plastic pollution in the ocean.” I was amazed in his unselfish answer, and then I thought, “I’m bringing too much of my work home with me.”  Even though my son has a little more exposure to ideas about reducing single plastic use waste than other kids may, he’s one of many growing up that see the impacts of this global issue and want to do something about it.

It’s not often that we have the opportunity to set goals for a new decade.  I’m personally excited for the opportunity that PlasticScore offers to everyone who wants to find simple ways to reduce single use waste from dining out.  Habits don’t change overnight, and taking that first step is often the biggest challenge. As my co-founder Mladen likes to see it - if we all make baby turtle steps towards change, together, we will make a huge difference. Imagine how much less plastic pollution will be in the oceans in 2030 if we all stop using single use plastics when we dine out.

Please join our vision “To make sustainable living easy for everyone” by using PlasticScore to find restaurants that offer more sustainable dining experiences, to track and share your own dining experiences, and to challenge yourself and others to reduce single use items when dining out.  Thank you!
